1967.5 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Converting to a 2000 Solex car
Car is being restored in Salt Lake City, Utah

Picking up the dream car from Mike Kerr, Roadster Restoration, in sunny Northern California. Parts include the car, a new braking system, a 2 liter engine with solex oil pan. New solex cam, Aries racing pistons, 5 speed transmission, lightened flywheel, new front and rear competition springs and numerous bits and pieces.

Chipping out the old sound deadening material, getting ready to grind down the complete interior compartment and apply rust treatment.

Pulling the old 1600 engine.

Body is now off the frame. Frame will be sandblasted and powder coated.

Engine work has begun. Work will include balancing. .040 over bore, complete valve job, custom machining & polishing of the head to compensate for the Aries racing pistons. Pistons HPC coated. All new timing components. High strength rod & head bolts. New Mikuni/Solex 44mm carburetors, new Solex cam, rocker arms, Solex oil pan clear powder coated. Machine work provided by Temples’ Maschine Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah.

HPC coating applied to the piston top and skirt.


Frame has been sandblasted and powdercoated. Ready to mount front and rear end components.

Starting to build the front end.

Now I have a rolling frame. Competition sway bar, and competition springs up front. Competition springs and a 4.11 limited slip differential in the rear. Ready for the motor.

Motor is now in. My good friend Steve “The Fish” Ninow helping to secure the motor mounts. Steve and the gang at Tool Design have been an invaluable source of knowledge and and assistance throughout this project.
